You all know how much I love tags, I mention it every time I do one. So I’m back with another one. Yay. I came across the vegan tag on Plant-Based Jane’s blog. You can go check out her answers and the rest of her blog here!
Are you vegan?
Of course, I am!
When did you become vegan?
I became vegan on the 17th of April 2018.
Why did you become vegan?
For a number of reasons. Obviously, for the animals, they’re treated horrifically and that is not something I want to associate myself with, at all. I also decided to go vegan for the health benefits and environmental benefits. I see no downsides to going vegan. I’m better for it, too.
What was the hardest part about becoming vegan?
It was for sure the mental side of it. I’ve suffered from eating disorders and food issues, so I wasn’t sure I’d have anything to eat. Boy, I was wrong. This was probably the one thing that prevented me from going vegan earlier. Also going to restaurants is still a minor issue for me, but I just stick to what I know.
Is it difficult being vegan?
No way. I don’t think it’s that hard. I certainly thought it would be a lot harder than it actually is. There are so many vegan options in supermarkets and most restaurants now. It gets easier every single day.
Do you let certain things ‘slide’ from time to time? (For example, use/purchase non-vegan items.)
Nope. I have not bought anything non-vegan since going vegan. I’ve slowly used up the products I already had that weren’t vegan, but I’ve swapped them out for vegan alternatives now.
How do you deal with people who are close-minded about your lifestyle?
I honestly don’t care about them. It’s my life, not theirs and if they have a problem with it then it’s on them, not me.
Do you support vegetarianism and or ‘something is better than nothing’?
I’m a ‘something is better than nothing’ sort of person. Although I think veganism is the way forward, I’m not going to hate on someone who is making some form of difference. It’s harder for some more than others. We’re all on the same journey, there’s no point in excluding others.
What is your favourite speciality vegan item?
I love violife cheese. It’s so good, I put it on everything. I love chocolate Oatly oat drink, it takes just like a milkshake. I adore the Kirsty’s vegan pizzas. This is a hard question, I love so many things.
What is your opinion on meat and dairy alternatives?
I don’t have an issue with them, really. They’re cruelty-free so why would you have a problem with them? But, this doesn’t mean they’re healthier than meat and dairy…
What is your opinion on palm oil?
Palm oil is a funny subject. I don’t agree with the devastation it causes to receive it, but I also find it really hard to avoid it. I try to whenever I can, but it is in so much stuff. I think it is the responsibility of the brand/company to find alternatives, which I know there are some. I try to avoid it as much as possible.
Do you feel judged by other vegans?
Not personally, but that’s probably because I don’t really involve myself with vegan groups, or people I find too overbearing. I tend to keep to myself, and that’s okay!
Do you enjoy being vegan?
Yes! I love it. I will always be vegan now. I feel better, I look noticeably better, why would I ever go back to feeling sluggish and bloated? It was the best decision I ever made.
I’m not going to specifically tag anyone in this post, but it’d be awesome to see some people take on this tag. If you do, tag me so I can see and share!
