Book Challenge Day 15 – Favourite Shakespeare Play

I am a huge fan of Shakespeare’s work. I can’t tell you what it is about his work that I love so much. But, in the end, there was a clear winner. Of course, it’s ‘Romeo and Juliet’. Who doesn’t know the story of ‘a pair of star-crossed lovers’?

This is probably another story you studied in school, but I don’t care – I’m going to talk about it again.

The tragedy of Romeo and Juliet and their whirlwind 48-hour relationship is just so exciting for me, even though I know what happens. Plus you can’t deny that William Shakespeare is one of the greatest writers of all time, and of time to come.

I’m so desperate to see ‘Romeo and Juliet’ performed at the Globe Theatre in London. That and ‘The Taming of the Shrew’ which is my second favourite Shakespeare play. I think just seeing it in real life, in front of my eyes, would be an emotional moment for me. I just love it so much.

There have been so many adaptations of ‘Romeo and Juliet’ – plays and films, even music videos. It seems to be such a huge part of Western culture, particularly the Baz Luhrmann’s incredible film adaptation (more on that in another post).

Do you like ‘Romeo and Juliet’?

Thanks for reading!

  1. Yes, I love “Romeo and Juliet”, but my absolute favouite is “Othello”. There is an inevitability about the way the tragedy unfolds that chimes with me every time.
