This film is one of the greatest films I have ever seen. It’s so artistic that it truly draws you in. Based on the novel by American author, André Aciman; it follows the life of Elio, a seventeen-year-old boy, and his attraction to his Fathers twenty-four-year-old research assistant, Oliver. It is set in Northern Italy so the scenic shots are always something special to see.
I cried so hard at this film. The romance, joy, devastation, everything contributes to how brilliant this film is. I’m currently reading the book, which is even better than the film (if that’s possible).
The film has minimal dialogue which automatically allows you to really concentrate on the pure chemistry between Elio and Oliver. This love story truly takes you on a journey of love and heartbreak.
I’m a sucker for a love story and I don’t think they come any better than this one. A sequel has also been announced so I really look forward to that. The film only portrays half of the novel, so if you want to know what happens before the sequel is released then you need to read the book.
I definitely recommend watching this film for the reasons I’ve mentioned but also because of the beautiful speech made my Elio’s father at the end of the film. It was so lovely to hear something so touching and accepting, which makes a difference.
Overall it’s just a great, cinematic masterpiece that I think will really stand the test of time. So go check it out!
Thank you for reading!
